Connecting to Microsoft 365

Introduction

LeftClick supports the Microsoft Graph API to interact with Microsoft 365. This API supports Modern Authentication and is the recommended way for (external) applications to access Microsoft 365. LeftClick Web Services provides four applications that can be authorized to access specific data on your Microsoft 365 tenant:

  1. Microsoft 365 for Presence
  2. Microsoft 365 for RoomGuide
  3. Microsoft 365 for SharePoint
  4. Microsoft 365 for Single Sign-On

To be able to use these applications on our products:

  1. You connect an (authentication) provider for a specific application to an account in the LWS portal (see below how to do that)
  2. By doing this you allow the provider of this application to retrieve access tokens for the connected Microsoft 365 account
  3. LeftClick Web Services keeps refreshing these tokens until either this provider is removed, the application authorization gets revoked or if the connected Microsoft 365 accounts gets blocked or removed
  4. The application running on your devices get supplied these tokens securely

If no provider is connected for a specific application when a user tries to create a slide for this application in the LWS portal, the portal will redirect the user to right page.

Note: We recommend that your IT department/Microsoft 365 administrator adds consent in advance for the applications that are going to be used on behalf of your organization as described below. This prevents admin consent being asked every time you try to connect a provider, temporarily blocking you in what they are trying to do.

Connecting a Microsoft 365 account to the LWS portal

First, you need to login to the LWS portal in order to be able to connect. Then:

  1. Go to your profile
  2. Select the tab “Logins”
  3. Open the option “Connect with a provider”
  4. Select “Sign in with Microsoft 365 for ...” (which one depends on what you want to use)

Once this connection process is completed (you need to accept the LeftClick Web Services application to access the correct account), you can create slides that use Microsoft 365 (such as RoomGuide) onto your LeftClick device.

Note: If you cannot find the relevant provider, it might be that it is already connected! If the wrong account was linked or you want to redo this, simple remove the login by pressing the 🗑-icon on the right side and follow the steps above.

Consent to the use of an application on behalf of your organization

If you try to connect a provider, it might be your organization configured it such that this requires admin consent first. To prevent having to ask for consent each time you connect a provider, it is possible for your IT department/Microsoft 365 administrator to consent in advance to access by the LeftClick Web Service applications.

To accomplish this, follow the steps in the Azure documentation and for step (4) search for the relevant “LeftClick Web Services - …” application.
